I gave a keynote presentation at the GIS Ireland conference on November 15th. The plenary session was themed on Climate Change and I spoke about one aspect of that which is particularly impacting on Ireland: flooding.

There is a large amount of capital expenditure by government on flood mitigation and defence works, and this expenditure is highly data-driven. Flood mapping itself is a data-driven exercise and is one of the primary users of high quality detailed spatial data. In my presentation, I looked at some of the sources of data for flood mapping and how it is vitally important to get this information in front of the right people at the right time in an easy to use and understand manner.
